Front: reworking

A Painting that’s a few years old and has come out for a bit of a play.

A friend remarked, ‘I like your new ones’ and pointed out a couple details that had drawn them in. It was lovely to have a fresh perspective on work that seemed a bit tired to me. I think sometimes I have the tendency to look at my paintings through the lens of ‘what needs correcting’ rather than ‘what do I like about this’. Paintings can stay on the shelf in limbo – I can like it enough that I am reluctant to recycle the canvas, but not sure I’m happy enough to call it a finished piece.

So I’ve had a play; adjusting colour and value to give more depth and atmosphere and bringing in areas of different brush textures (i.e. a softer sky and distant hills). Still some things to play with here.

‘Front’ mixed media painting on canvas, Berah tor, Bormin Moor, 50x40cm
