A sketch and stroll to Stannon Stone circle, Bodmin Moor
Stannon is rich area for lumps, bumps and possible prehistoric archaeology. It does make me wonder what could have on the moorland that has now been quarried away. The exciting spot on this trip however was the sun-basking adder (twice!) . It always feels a privilege to be able to observe wildlife in their natural environments.
About forty stones are standing in a 43 metre by 39 metre irregular circle. There is pronounced gap at the northeast of the circle- perhaps lost stones or a possible entrance. Apparently, the mayday /cross-quarter sun rises over Rough if viewed from this gap.
